Statement 6: Syrian refugees Remain Acutely Vulnerable During Times of Crisis

Since 2 March 2026, Israeli attacks have targeted and destroyed civilian infrastructure across Lebanon through airstrikes and mass demolitions, including homes, schools, healthcare facilities, water and electricity infrastructure, places of worship and agricultural land, levelling entire villages across southern Lebanon. These attacks, together with Israel’s occupation of southern Lebanon within the “Yellow Line” and designated “combat zones”, have displaced more than one million people from their homes – over 20 percent of Lebanon’s population – triggering a humanitarian crisis while further deepening the country’s economic challenges and social tensions. As of 2 August 2026, Israeli attacks have killed at least 4,333 people and injured at least 12,250, including 135 healthcare workers and 253 children, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health.
